About the event
Join us for a night of intrigue and horror as we venture into the Fairelands and play Candela Obscura! This hot new tabletop roleplaying game comes from Darrington Press and some of the minds behind the popular actual play series, Critical Role. In Candela Obscura, players take on the role of investigators in a secret society that are tasked with protecting their world from horrors and mysteries from the beyond! In this event, multiple Circles (adventuring parties) must follow clues and share information to collectively stop the unthinkable from occuring. How will these various assignments tie together? Only you can discover that!
Whether you've had the chance to play Candela Obscura before or this is your first time, we welcome you to join in! Game rules will be explained at the top and cheat sheets will be on hand! Additionally, we will begin the event with a brief "Session 0" to develop characters and relationships in order to further enhance the experience. As always, no prior experience is needed, nor will you need to build a character before the event. That being said, we do encourage you to check out the following videos to familiarize yourself prior to the event:
Candela Obscura - Setting & Lore
It is also important to address content warnings. While we can't say for certain what horrors may be created at your table, we can guarantee that there will be horrors. This event is geared to be one of terrifying delight and that means allowing yourself to get scared, vulnerable, and at times, uncomfortable. As always, we will be using safety tools to respect everyone's boundaries but with horror we ask that you do what you can to open yourself up and face some of your fears. To be clear, this means things like excessive gore, body horror, spiders, or possession; NOT things like sexual assault, etc.
This is a good time to mention that Candela Obscura is designed with a focus on roleplay. Unlike many of our TTRPG events, there will be no minis or terrain used for this one. However, expect other kinds of immersion including lights, sound, themed-snacks/drinks, and of course, cosplay. We encourage you to cosplay in your best Victorian Steampunk/Gilded Age garb!
